About Me
I was always into music.Much of my adult life has been spent "on the road" gigging.I've played in all sorts of bands/groups over the years.I'm still playing, & still get a buzz out of it.
How I Got Started
One of my pals at Primary school (Andy W) introduced me to George Hotchkiss.George was a revelation to me..........This was my introduction to the world of the guitar!!!!!!Andy & I went a couple of nights a week for guitar lessons.Duane Eddy & The Shadows.........We'd take a break after a couple of hours & George's wife would make "pieces 'n chips" & a great big mug of tea, George would rattle off "true" stories about everything & anything. We were mesmerised, but George's wife would just shake her head and laugh at two wee gullible schoolboys. That was it........I was hooked on the guitar and have never lost the buzz.
The first real live group I ever saw.....The Musketeers. Mind-blowing in those days, Shadows music note 4 note....suits & shadows steps. We just stood at the front of the stage in awe.
5x5......superb. Cocker,Billy,Jim,John & Allan. Billy left & got famous with Bubbles & then Slick with Midge Ure, Shugg then joined 5x5...great guitarist. We had many great nights wherever 5x5 were playing. Never to be forgotten.
We had our own wee group. 5x5 guys were a bit older than us & we went wherever they played just to get "pointers" & chords. By that time Tamla & Soul was arriving.I never looked back.
I left the Island when I was 18 & went on the road.I gigged with everyone & anyone, playing all sorts of music.Showbands,Soul,Jazz,Heavy Metal.....you name it. Always learning, & always travelling.I gave up the travelling ages ago,but I'm still playing bass.
I'm now a respectable(?) Electronics Engineer working for Polaroid.Been playing with the same group since 1970's.We dropped from a 7-piece to a 5-piece to a 4-piece.Now we're a trio ,but we still have a good following and it's all about fun...enjoyment & staying young! ! ! ! ! !
